nSTRIDE
nSTRIDE is an injection therapy that uses a patient’s own proteins to treat osteoarthritis pain.
Service Description
nSTRIDE is an innovative treatment designed to alleviate the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis (OA), particularly in the knee. Unlike conventional treatments that mainly target symptoms, nSTRIDE works by addressing the underlying inflammation that drives OA progression. It is an autologous protein solution, meaning it uses the patient's own blood to create a specialized injection that helps modulate the inflammatory environment in the affected joint. The process involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, which is then processed to concentrate anti-inflammatory proteins, such as interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) and other beneficial cytokines. These proteins are known to block the harmful effects of interleukin-1 (IL-1), a pro-inflammatory molecule that contributes to cartilage breakdown in osteoarthritis. Once prepared, the concentrated solution is injected directly into the osteoarthritic joint. By introducing these proteins into the joint, nSTRIDE aims to reduce inflammation and promote a healthier joint environment. This approach not only helps relieve pain but also potentially slows down the progression of osteoarthritis, offering longer-term benefits compared to standard treatments like corticosteroid injections or hyaluronic acid. nSTRIDE is typically considered for patients who have moderate to severe osteoarthritis and have not found sufficient relief from other conservative treatments such as physical therapy, oral medications, or less invasive injections. It is a one-time treatment, although some patients may benefit from repeat injections depending on their individual condition. The procedure is minimally invasive and performed in an outpatient setting, usually taking less than an hour. Since the therapy uses the patient's own blood, the risk of adverse reactions or rejection is very low. Some patients may experience mild soreness at the injection site, but serious side effects are rare. Clinical studies have shown promising results, with many patients experiencing significant reductions in pain and improvements in joint function for up to 12 months or longer after treatment. While it may not be a cure for osteoarthritis, nSTRIDE represents a new frontier in regenerative medicine that focuses on biological solutions to manage joint pain and inflammation effectively.
